The following communication is being sent pursuant to North Carolina General Statute § 75-65.

Monitech is a manufacturer and service provider of breath alcohol ignition interlock devices based in Morrisville, NC.

Recently a single password-protected laptop computer was stolen from Monitech that contained names and driver license numbers of Monitech customers.

No social security numbers, credit card numbers, banking account numbers or other financial information typically used by identity thieves was on the computer.

Law Enforcement as well as the North Carolina Department of Justice’s Office of Consumer Protection were notified. To date, no Law Enforcement or Government Agency has notified Monitech of any unauthorized use of information contained on the computer.

Nevertheless, in an abundance of caution, Monitech is notifying customers and advising them of the following basic steps they can take to protect their personal financial information.

First, Monitech customers may contact any of the following three credit bureaus:

Customers can place a fraud alert free of charge by contacting any one of these three credit bureaus.

Second, customers can obtain information to protect themselves by contacting the Federal Trade Commission, 600 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20580, www.ftc.gov/idtheft, 1-877-ID-THEFT, and the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office, 9001 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699, www.ncdoj.gov, 1-877-5-NO-SCAM.

Third, customers should be on alert for any suspicious charges or debits discovered in their financial statements. Customers should check their credit reports and account statements periodically to spot any potential problems.
