If you want to end drunk driving in North Carolina, the first steps you can take are literally that – steps. The Raleigh Walk Like MADD and MADD Dash 2017, which will take place this Saturday, is an event to raise funds for and awareness of drunk driving issues. Their annual walk is a chance for the citizens of Raleigh to come out in favor of safer roads for everyone. And it’s as easy as putting one foot in front of the other.

It’s easy to do: just register at the MADD page – you have until June 2 to register online. Then show up this Saturday for a walk or run through Lake Benson Park, a gorgeous woodland trail. You can also volunteer to help out at the event. And you don’t need to be a marathon runner – anyone, in any shape, can come along. If you’re in a wheelchair, roll on in. Kids are welcome, as are dogs – it’s a family event that was created to help keep families safe.

If you can’t show up – donate!

Busy this Saturday? You can still make a big difference. Go online and support a team with a donation. Your money helps MADD fight for better anti-drunk driving legislation, including ignition interlock laws, child endangerment laws, and stricter laws against repeat drunk driving.

Got time for a walk this Saturday? Make it count. Join the Raleigh Walk Like MADD and MADD Dash 2017.

Why They’re Doing It

Walk Like MADD is the organization’s signature fundraising event, designed to provide an outlet for those impacted by drunk driving to channel their grief into hope and healing by creating a movement for change in their community. It provides victims and survivors the chance to do something to eliminate drunk driving by recruiting more grassroots advocates and raising mission-critical funds, giving purpose to a purposeless act. It also provides a community the chance to surround and support those hurting by taking action to prevent others from suffering because of drunk driving.

Drunk driving victims need you. Your friends (and a lot of interesting people you haven’t met yet) want to see you. And the animals in the Phoenix Zoo are waiting too. So please sign up for the Phoenix Walk Like MADD and do something great for Phoenix and all of Arizona.

Afterwards, you’ll be walking tall.

Your dog could use a walk this Saturday. So could you. And you both could be helping make Arizona’s roads safer while you get some air and stretch your legs. This Saturday Tucson hosts the most recent Walk Like MADD, an event designed to raise funds for and awareness of drunk driving in the state.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has two missions: to end drunk driving and to support the victims of what it correctly terms a violent crime. The organization achieves the first by working to pass more effective anti-drunk-driving legislation, including all-offender ignition interlock laws, no-refusal laws, and automatic license suspension (ALS) for those arrested for drunk driving. It also promotes awareness of drunk driving issues through various events. And  the organization works for victims, raising funds, assisting with aid applications, and providing support in a number of ways.

walk-like-maddThis year Reid Park Country Club will be where the Walk Like MADD event kicks off. Families of victims will be present, along with concerned citizens, and representatives from law enforcement and nonprofit organizations connected with public safety efforts.

You can help further this vital cause by signing up as a walker, team captain, or volunteer. You can even be involved without attending the event by signing up as a virtual walker, or by making a donation to another walker or team. You can find more information about registering here.

Let’s not forget dogs. The Tucson Walk Like MADD event is dog-friendly. So bring the most important member of your family, and walk so that one day no one will ever be, or know, a victim of a drunk driving crash.

window rock site of walk like madd arizonaDrunk driving is an urgent problem in Arizona as it is in other states. Each year well over 200 people die in Arizona because someone made the bad decision to drink and drive. About a third of all traffic deaths in the state are alcohol-related.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is dedicated to increasing awareness of the problem. Through its Walk Like MADD events, the organization raises money not only to help the victims of impaired driving and their families, but to make the roads safer by advocating for stronger legislation (e.g. ignition interlock laws) and better enforcement of anti-DUI laws.

Everyone can help in this effort by joining a Walk Like MADD event. The next one in Arizona will take place at Window Rock. Here are the details:

What Walk Like MADD Does

Families have been affected by the scourge of drunk driving since the invention of the motorcar, but until MADD came along there wasn’t a way for most citizens to fight back. MADD raises awareness of the problem of drunk driving, takes impaired driving education to the schools, supports victims and their families, and works for laws that help bring down the number of alcohol-related road collisions. The decline in drunk driving deaths since 1980 is a result of MADD’s tireless work.

Walk Like MADD gives everyone a chance to support this vital effort. The events spread the word and raise funds for MADD’s educational and lobbying efforts.

What You Can Do

  • Sign Up. Join as a walker. Or better, gather some friends and start a team.
